What happens when you mix Cannabis and Alcohol?
“Alcohol and cannabis, if used in moderation, plus loud, usually low-class music, make stress and boredom infinitely more bearable.”
A Tale of two lovers
The East Coast calls it getting “twisted.” The West Coast calls it getting “crossfaded.” Scientists just call it raising your odds ratio for life-threatening injury. Regardless of what you call it, consuming both alcohol and cannabis is guaranteed to make you feel “lit”. Studies show that even after taking two shots of alcohol raise the THC levels in participants blood plasma. Doubling it, compared to those who were stoned but consumed a placebo drink. For some, this sounds like a blessing. It means alcohol makes you higher and that is what people are looking for. But are there dangers to combining the two substances?
Alcohol and Cannabis Do not mix
When a person drinks too much alcohol, the body responds by vomiting. As cannabis helps prevent vomiting, the body may be unable to rid itself of dangerous toxins. Used together, alcohol and cannabis can also create paranoia, causing people to make irrational choices. THC is absorbed into the blood faster when alcohol is also present. The magnified effects of using these substances together can be very unpredictable.
Little research has been done on combining alcohol and cannabis, but the indications are that there can be major risks. No matter what substances you are using, please consult a physician before combining them.
